Riverwalk Wellness Centres is currently running a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) group. WRAP is a program developed by individuals who have experience with mental health issues and related challenges. It is a best practice wellness strategy and its effectiveness has been proven through many studies. It is a strengths-based recovery plan that can be used to achieve and maintain wellness. And it’s awesome.
WRAP is driven by recovery-oriented values and ethics, and rooted in important key concepts of recovery. WRAP takes its users through the various stages of wellbeing – from maintaining daily wellness, to dealing with triggers, to reacting to one’s early warning signs, to getting back on track when things start to break down, to preparing for a crisis.
The idea behind WRAP is that it is entirely personal and involves ‘wellness tools’ that are meaningful to each individual. The benefit of having a group structure to developing a WRAP is that group participants can share their wellness tools and strategies and learn from one another. It provides a warm environment where group members can receive and provide mutual support to one another.
WRAP is an excellent recovery strategy that can be adapted to all of life’s challenges – mental health issues, addiction, aging, job loss, and grief are just some of the situations in which WRAP can be used. Riverwalk is excited to be offering this program and we hope to offer it again in the fall.
