On 20 June 2015, join friends, family and community members in celebrating Toronto’s progress made towards an inclusive society in Canada and recommitting towards a Canada free from all forms of discrimination for all people.
The Toronto Spirit of Mandela Freedom Walk, to be held at Nelson Mandela Boulevard from the Air Canada Centre to Queen’s Park south lawn, is about the promotion of Nelson Mandela’s vision of a society inclusive of all people, respectful of human rights and social justice for all, which also reflects the values of Canadians. Much progress has been made in Canada towards that vision, but there is much work to be done towards an inclusive and equitable society. The Spirit of Mandela Freedom Walk is intended to promote and support efforts by individuals, groups and institutions to build and sustain a just, fair and equitable society for all.
The walk takes place on the third weekend in June to coincide with the anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s first visit to Canada. June 2015 will be the 25th anniversary of Mandela’s first visit and June 21 is National Aboriginal Day in Canada.
