Exploring Acrylics Group at Riverwalk

Last month we held our very first Exploring Acrylics group at Riverwalk. With the support of our facilitator Laura, group participants used canvas and a wide array of colours to bring artistic visions to life. Participants learned about the process of blending colours and putting paint to canvas, and even though the majority of folks were beginners they were able to create with bold and beautiful paintings that brightened up our gallery during the group. See below for examples!

If you are interested in participating in a group like this, email art@edoyr.com to inquire! Also if you have some artwork that you’d like to share with us, let us know – we’d love to have you contribute to our art blog!

Unpack Your Heart

“Unpack Your Heart”
By Phillip Phillips

Meet me where the sunlight ends
Meet me where the truth never bends
Bring all that you’re scared to defend

And lay it down when you walk through my door
Throw all of it out on the floor
Your sorrow, your beauty, your war
I want it all, I want it all

Bring your secrets, bring your scars
Bring your glory, all you are
Bring your daylight, bring your dark
Share your silence
And unpack your heart

Show me something the rest never see
Give me all that you hope to receive
Your deepest regret dies with me

The days when you stumble and fall
The days when you grind to a crawl
The treasure that hides behind your walls
I want it all, yeah I want it all

Bring your secrets, bring your scars
Bring your glory, all you are
Bring your daylight, bring your dark
Share your silence
And unpack your heart
Unpack your heart

Oh, I’m on your side
So shed your shadow
And watch it rise

Oh, I’m on your side
So shed your shadow
And watch it rise
Into your darkness
I’ll shine a light

Bring your secrets, bring your scars
Bring your glory, all you are
Bring your daylight, bring your dark
Share your silence

Bring your honor, bring your shame
All your madness, I will tame
Won’t you lay down, down your guard
Share your silence
And unpack your heart

Kindness

The 2017 design theme for the ball that drops on New Year’s Eve in Times Square: kindness

The crystals are cut thick enough to be weatherproof—resilient to any wind, rain, or temperature fluctuations. Each year, a few days before the ball drop ceremony, 288 of the triangles are replaced with the thematic design.

Waterford’s 2017 sentiment, unveiled at a Dec. 27 ceremony in Times Square by Waterford master artisan Tom Brennan, is a timely one. The theme: The gift of kindness. Brennan says the theme was not specifically intended as a response to recent political developments around the world, but take from it what you will.

Spoken Trees

Lastest Addition to Our Collection of Inspiring Art Books
Spoken Trees  Paintings on Wood and Poetry by Lauralee K. Harris

“My hope is that we heal our hearts, understand and accept ourselves first, and then accordingly each other to make our peace on this earth.  Without healing our hearts, understanding and accepting ourselves and others, how can we possibly love, trust and respect this earth long enough to restore her…”
“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this center is really everywhere, it is with each of us”. – Black Elk: Holy Man of the Oglaala Sioux,  1863 – 1950
