Mental Health and the Holidays

As the holidays approach, we recognize that this time of year can be challenging; please see below for articles for support, as well as chat lines and online support groups.

NEDIC (National Eating Disorders Information Centre)
As 2017 comes to a close and the holidays approach, we recognize that this time of year can be challenging for people affected by eating disorders. 
This year, the NEDIC Helpline and Instant Chat will be open over the holidays:
Friday December 22: 9am-5pm EST
Monday December 25 & Tuesday December 26: Closed
Wednesday December 27: 10am-6pm EST
Thursday December 28: 10am-6pm EST
Friday December 29: 10am-6pm EST
Monday January 1: Closed

NEDIC will resume regular helpline hours of 9am-9pm EST Monday-Thursday and 9am-5pm EST on Fridays on January 2, 2018.

NEDIC (National Eating Disorders Information Centre) has a database of care providers, some are OHIP covered, some have a sliding scale, and most are fee-for service. Their database can be found on their website at http://nedic.ca/, or you may wish to call them for assistance in searching it at 416-340-4156.

1-855-310-COPE (2673) Community Crisis Response Service
York Support Services Network offers the Community Crisis Response Service for persons living in York Region or South Simcoe who are having a mental health crisis, and their family or friends.
By calling the toll free number 1-855-310-COPE (2673) or (TTY) 1-866-323-7785, you can speak with a crisis worker anytime you need to. The crisis worker will provide an immediate telephone response in a variety of situations, such as if you are feeling depressed, distressed, lonely, anxious, scared, angry or are worried that you have no where to go.

The Warm Line and Peer Crisis Support Service is now 24 hours per day, 7 days per week Call 1-888-777-0979

The Warm Line and Peer Crisis Support Service provides non-crisis and crisis telephone support from a recovery and peer informed perspective in the York Region, South Simcoe and North York areas (the Central LHIN). The support line is answered by individuals with lived experience with mental health concerns, addiction, and/or trauma
